Frugal Entertainment
One of the best values in entertainment you can find locally is movies and DVDs at your public library. Each library has their own selection, but you'll find the most at the Central Library on Cedar Road.
Second best is video rentals. Movie Gallery periodically has a special where you can buy a "Gift Card" for 50% of the face value. That's $40 of rentals for $20, and their selection is at least as good as the big guys.
There are also online rentals like Netflix.com or blockbuster.com. Blockbuster just undercut Netflix's price, so watch for a price war in the future. For $15.49 (including tax) you can rent as many videos as you want (3 at a time) and they are delivered to you through the mail. My personal experience as been good. Plus you get 2 free rentals a month at your local Blockbuster store. All for less than the cost of first-run movie for two at the local theater.
Chesapeake also boasts several recreation centers, membership for adult residents is only $15 per year, youth $5 per year. That includes the gyms, pool tables and other facilities, plus the Chesapeake Skate park at City Park. (For more information on the skate park, call 382-8878.)
